How does this work?
Q: What is ArWeb?
This is both a service and an app.
The Service:
a) Listens to your ideas and desires
b) Creates a Custom Design, based on your needs
c) Provides customer service for revisions or tech help
d) You’d then take your new custom design, and plug it into our app
The app:
a) Makes it easy to add new content
b) Uses Hugo & an Arweave wallet
c) Open Source
d) On Your Local Computer
e) No Rules. The individual Arweave nodes decide, and not us.
Q: How does it work?
Step 1, Reach out
You’d reach out to us and let us know if you want a blog, podcast, art gallery, video site, static landing pages, or something else. We’d then give you a price quote based on your needs.
Step 2: Pay Receipt
You’d get a PGP-signed receipt, backed by our binding arbitration deposit with XMRBazaar, as a gaurentee of service. It’s completely optional if you want to learn PGP to verify it. Then you’d pay the bill in Monero, Bitcoin, Litecoin, or Arweave.
Step 3: Get Template
We design a custom template for you, and show you the result to make changes. Once it’s complete, we’d give you a simple zip file to download. You then take this zip file template, and insert it into our ArWeb app.
Step 4: Get AR
You have to get AR cryptocurrency coins to upload to Arweave, you can swap Monero/Bitcoin for them on SimpleSwap, or a variety of other exchanges.
Step 5: Upload
When prompted, you’d add your AR wallet into the app, and then add your custom template. From here it’s adding in your unique content through the app, and then uploading.
Step 6: Optional: Get Arweave Domain Name
Our organization is completely separate from the official ArNS team. If you wish to get an ArNS domain name (which we highly encourage), then you’d do so for ARIO coins through their official protocol.
Note: The initial fees to us, are completely different than what you pay for domains. The cost of this varies based on how long the domain name you want is. If it’s very short then it’s more expensive. But a longer name (like over 17 characters) can be roughly $10-20.
Q: What platforms are supported?
Our initial prototype is for Linux. But, we will have future versions for Windows and Apple. If you’re using Windows or Mac, reach out and let’s see if we can adapt the template to your OS, depending on the complexity of your design request. Also, VirtualBox machines can be easily used on Windows.
Q: Do you only accept cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is definitely the easiest way, and you’re going to have to get AR coins to upload anyway. However, if you wish to pay with a gift card from a major retailer, we can accept that as well.
Q: What are the rules for censorship?
Simplified Privacy does not decide what content is acceptable, it is up to the individual Arweave nodes. We are an open source software provider, but can not provide any guarantee on controversial content being approved by random Arweave nodes. If it’s highly illegal content, it may be flagged by the nodes.
Q: On a technical level, how does ArWeb work?
ArWeb uses the Hugo framework to create static websites on your local computer. Then it creates a hash of every file in your website directory, and compares which hashes are changed from the last time you uploaded. Finally, it uploads to Arweave the new/changed files.
Q: How does the Arweave protocol work?
We have articles and a podcast on the structure of Arweave, as well as some of the benefits it offers.
Q: Are you affiliated with the official Arweave foundation?
We do not have any financial or legal affiliation with the official Arweave foundation or ArNS name service.
